#71 - The Start of a Research Course

Hello Everyone,

Going forward, I want this blog to just be a place where I document my progress and work towards creating my next course which is going to be called, “Methods of Knowing”. In this course, it is going to be a deep dive into how one can become a better researcher and improve their lives regardless of what career they are in or what subject they are trying to locate information in.

Academic Research as a discipline has a lot of stigma mostly due to misconceptions. It is a very misunderstood subject and also a skill. So I hope this course, once I publish it in the future, will bring light to how this is done and make students not just better researchers but more informed consumers. Most of what we do and some of the most important decisions that we make can be characterized by these two states:

#1 - Research State in which we look at our options and evaluate the “research” or information presented to us in the context of the thing we are researching. This can be an item, a service, a product, an idea, and anything else.

#2 - Consuming State in which we make a decision and decide to use that thing that we decided on.

Here as you can see some of these decisions are very important and we all as humans try to make the best decisions possible. However, If we do not understand the nuance and intricacies of the research process, it can be difficult to navigate.

I’ll share more information about where I am at in the process of course writing. I really like this more public approach so that I can talk about the ideas and build traction for my course. Plus it gives me something to talk about each week on this blog. Stay tuned because I will discuss more of the ideas. My anticipation is that I will probably have this course ready by the time summer arrives. That’s my mental goal, and then I will take the summer break to market and get ready for a fall launch.

In terms of updates to my website, I have been working on the “Process” page and I made some artwork for that particular webpage. I also am working on redoing the main artwork in my logo. What I am working on is a new representation of the same painting. That original painting was done by my Grandmother and so I do not take credit for that particular piece of artwork. I hope to redo it in my own style and publish it on the main page of my website. I also want to do a similar outside nature painting for the eBook that will accompany the Research Course.

That’s all I have to write. Have a great weekend!
